COMPASSION & HEALING THROUGH ART

A Creative Journey

Compassion fatigue and burnout affect so many of us, particularly family and professional caregivers, health care workers, animal welfare professionals, law enforcement agents, and so many others in the caring professions. Join Certified Compassion Fatigue Coach and artist, Jan Murphy, for this 2-day workshop curated with healing and self-care in mind.

Saturday, February 22nd, 10:00am - 3:00pm
Sunday, February 23rd, 10:00am - 3:00pm

In this 2-day course consisting of two separate workshops, Jan will help you to identify the symptoms and causes of compassion fatigue while offering useful techniques to stay present and healthy in your day-to-day life. Whatever level of stress you are experiencing through your job or personal life, this workshop will address the effects of burnout and compassion fatigue and give you a way forward through art therapy and the creative process.

Creativity is a proven and effective technique to help in your self-care journey. The techniques used will provide you with the tools and methods needed to make creativity a part of your healthy lifestyle.

DAY 1: Painting from the Heart

If you’re intimidated by a blank canvas and think you can’t paint, this class will change your mind! Or, if you’re already a painter, this class will help you to loosen up and create a mature, vibrant base for your paintings.

We’ll start off with that dreaded blank canvas and have fun experimenting with different ways of applying paint to it. Then we’ll delve into the many products and techniques available for mark making. Once we have created a beautiful, unique base, I’ll guide you through finishing your painting by adding subject matter or further embellishing your canvas to create an abstract piece. Through this process you’ll learn to transport yourself to your own true creative space. I promise a truly transformative experience! You’ll leave class with two or more completed paintings.

DAY 2: Mixed Media Soul Shrine

A shrine is defined as a sacred place or container where important or holy relics are kept. We all have these relics; cherished mementos, photos, souvenirs, ticket stubs, pet tags, seashells, bits and pieces of things that have mattered to you over time. You’re invited to bring these along to class to include in your very own soul shrine that will reflect what brings peace, joy, love, courage, and meaning to your life.

We’ll explore a variety of art making tools and supplies while learning some new techniques to make your shrine a beautiful, finished masterpiece and tribute to what is important to you.
